Partner services and sites are clearly identified. We protect your information

We protect the confidentiality and security of your personal information by using industry-recognized security safeguards such as firewalls, coupled with carefully developed security procedures to help protect your information from loss, misuse or unauthorized alteration. Whenever we ask for sensitive information, such as credit card numbers, we encrypt it as it is transmitted to us. Additionally, we use internal and external resources to review the adequacy of our security procedures.

Cookies, Web beacons and other Web technologies

We use a variety of technologies on our Web site. Among these are cookies, which are pieces of information that our Web sites provide to your browser. Cookies allow us to track overall site usage and determine areas users prefer. Cookies also allow us to customize your visit to our Web site by recognizing you when you return. You can choose to decline cookies while at our Web site, however, this may limit your ability to access certain areas of the Web site. Most browsers accept and maintain cookies by default. Check the Help menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preference.

When we track activity on our Web site, we collect information such as your IP address, browser type and version, and pages you view. We also keep track of how you got to our site and any links you click on to leave our site. Once you leave our site, we do not track you. We use your Web site activity to assist us in offering you a personalized Web experience, assist you with technical support and to tailor our offerings to you.

Remember, you control whether you receive Intuit promotional materials

We may access and set cookies using Web beacons, also known as single-pixel GIFs which are invisible graphical images. These Web beacons tell us useful information regarding our site such as which pages users access. When we send you e-mails, we may include a single-pixel GIF to determine the number of people who open our e-mails. When you click on a link in an e-mail, we record this individual response to allow us to customize our offerings to you.

To provide you with a seamless experience, we may occasionally use framing. Though your browser may indicate you are at lacertesoftware.com, you may be on a partner's site. To determine which site you are on, right-click on the page and then select "properties." Mac users should press the control key, and click their mouse on the site and then look at "View Source".

Third Parties

Sometimes, we enter into contracts with third parties who assist us in servicing you (for example, fulfilling customer orders or providing customer service). The contracts prohibit third parties from using any of your personal information for their own purposes, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of the information we provide to them. We may disclose or report personal information in limited circumstances where we believe in good faith that disclosure is required under the law. For example, we may be required to disclose personal information to cooperate with regulators or law enforcement authorities, to comply with a legal process such as a court order, subpoena, search warrant, or a law enforcement request.

We have business partners that provide services, some of which are co-branded. Partner services and sites are clearly identified. When you request any of these products or services, you are permitting us to provide your personal information to the partner to fulfill your request. Our Web site and software products may provide links to third-party sites, such as those of our business partners and online advertisers. Because Intuit does not control the information policies or practices of these third parties, you should review their privacy policies to learn more about how they collect and use personal information.

Should we sell, merge or transfer any part of our business, part of the sale may include your personal information. If so, you will have the opportunity to ask not to receive promotional information following any change of control.

We may use sources outside of Intuit to supplement the information you give us. For example, we may validate your address using other sources. We use this data to help us maintain accuracy and provide you with better service.

Intuit and its subsidiaries may exchange customer data to fulfill your requests. We may also provide you information about products or services we believe you may be interested in unless you have asked us not to contact you. We offer you the opportunity to review privacy practices at our subsidiaries' Web sites.

Services

  • Electronic Filing. As an approved transmitter of electronically filed federal income tax returns, we follow stringent security guidelines to help protect the security and privacy of your data. Electronically filed tax returns are encrypted during transmission to us. We use secure connections to transmit your clients' tax returns to the IRS and by state tax filing agencies. We maintain copies of electronically filed returns in case we need to retransmit the returns to the appropriate service centers or resolve technical support issues, billing, and for internal administrative purposes.
  • Remote Entry Processing (REP®).  REP allows you to "pay as you go" on a per return basis. As a part of the authorization and billing process, we receive information that allows us to identify a particular return.  In order to use REP, you must register each Tax Payer and obtain an authorization code before you can process or print the tax return. To register your client, we require the Tax Payer's Social Security Number or Federal Employer Identification Number. Lacerte uses this information to confirm multiple returns are not being processed without a license and for billing purposes. Your REP statement will list the Tax Payer's Name, Federal Employer Identification Number or the last four digits of their Social Security Number. When you register your client, the information is transferred using strong encryption with a key strength of 128-bits or better.
  • E-Organizer. You can send electronic tax organizers to your clients by e-mail. The Lacerte e-Organizer allows your clients to complete tax organizer forms and return the completed organizer to your office electronically. We receive copies of the electronic organizers to facilitate the e-mail process. Your clients may use Instant Data Entry within e-Organizer to retrieve and enter tax information automatically from sources such as participating employers, brokerages, payroll companies, mortgage companies, and mutual fund companies, directly into the e-Organizer. When they download information from such tax data providers, they will be required to enter authentication information, such as their user name, account number and/or password. We use this information for authentication to the tax data provider.
  • My Account. As a Lacerte customer, you may create on online account, which will allow you to access certain tools such as online support, product downloads, e-file return status, and tracking your product shipment. You may also pay your remote entry processing (REP®) and electronic filing balances through My Account.
  • User Feedback. We offer you the opportunity to provide product suggestions online. All submissions through this form are treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary, and may be published or used by Intuit, without your personal information, for other purposes.
  • Update Notifier. You may choose to activate the Updates Notifier, which will periodically check for updates to selected Lacerte Tax programs. This feature will allow you to automatically receive updates to the Lacerte Tax programs when there are product updates. This feature may be deactivated via the options tab. During the download process, we receive certain information such as your client number, machine ID, and the name of the file you choose to download. We use this information to update your program correctly, to resolve technical support issues, and internal reporting.
  • Integrated E-mail. You can submit technical support questions or issues via e-mail messages through the Lacerte software tax programs. In addition, you can attach a copy of your client's tax return to the e-mail message.
  • Seminars. We provide you the opportunity to register for product training.
  • Help Feedback. When you access Help, we offer you the ability to send feedback regarding the usefulness of a particular help topic from within the tax program.
  • Newsletters. As a Lacerte customer, you automatically receive Lacerte e-newsletters. This newsletter is designed specifically for Lacerte Tax customers, to keep you informed of support news, additional tax resources which may be available to you, tax news, and important dates. Generally, during tax season we publish e-newsletter weekly. After tax season, you may receive the newsletter every other week. If you do not wish to receive the newsletter, you can so indicate at http://www.lacertesoftware.com/privacy/SubscriptionPreferences.aspx.
  • Your Customers' Information. For some services, such as REP and e-file, you provide some of your customers' personal information to Intuit. We use such information only to fulfill the service that you request. We do not use this information for marketing purposes or share this information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We use industry-recognized security safeguards to protect your customers' information.
